8/29: AP Lang

Today we engaged in our first seminar.  We shared our opinions - and/or adjusted our opinions - about the selfie, external appearances, possessions and identity as a whole.

For homework over the holiday weekend, complete the selfie analysis (if you did not already do it) and read Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby.  Remember that the audio/eBook links are on the toolbar to the right.

8/29: Honors English 10

In the media center, we continued drafting our memoirs.  Remember that the expectations are as follows:

- 2 (two) full-pages, double spaced
- Correct formatting (ask me for help if you're having trouble)
- 1" margins, Times New Roman 12pt font
- Uses at least 3 (three) techniques outlined on page 4 of the memoir packet

For homework this weekend -- bring a hard copy to class for peer editing.

8/28: AP Lang

In AP Lang, we discussed Guengrich's argument regarding the selfie.  Furthermore, we completed an argument template in response to both selfie articles.

For homework tonight, complete the selfie analysis and prepare for tomorrow's seminar.  The deadline for the vocabulary diagnostic is tonight as well.

8/28: Honors English 10

Today we reviewed the homework and began drafting our personal memoirs.

For homework, take the technology surveycontinue drafting your memoir.  The first draft is due Tuesday.  If you have access to one, please bring a laptop or tablet to class tomorrow.

8/27: AP Lang

In class, we discussed the extent to which one's external appearances influence one's personality and character.  We also deconstructed Caitlin Dewey's argument in "The Other Side of the Infamous 'Auschwitz Selfie.'"

For homework, please take this vocabulary diagnostic and read this article, which also relates to the "selfie controversy."

8/27: Honors English 10

Today we continued studying memoirs.  Specifically, we examined how Paola Ayala's use of internal monologue and climax helped convey her purpose and answered questions #7-9 in the memoir packet.

For homework tonight, please listen to "Is Your Dad Single?" and answer questions #10-12 in the memoir packet.  Remember that the due date and deadline for summer reading is September 5.  And if I talked to you after class, you need to sign up for Turnitin and/or Remind immediately.

8/26: Honors English 10

Today we analyzed how authors use rhetorical strategies to convey a purpose.  Specifically, we looked at a memoir packet (Sorry, only hard-copies; don't lose yours!).

For homework tonight, listen to "First Kiss" and answer questions #4-6 on the memoir packet.

*Remember that the due date and deadline for summer reading is Friday, September 5.  Also, be sure to sign up for Turnitin & Remind if you have not already done so.  Let me know if you need help with this process!

8/26: AP Lang

Today we discussed the main premise of AP Lang, which is that everything is an argument.  Posters, t-shirts, license plates, bumper stickers, and even photos on social networking sites are all arguments.  You can access the PowerPoint we reviewed here.

For homework, please read and annotate this article.  Think about Breanna's argument and Caitlin Dewey's argument.
