3/7: Lit as Film

Students will watch a sci-fi drama and contribute to a class forum.

Agenda:
- Tuesday: Watch half of "Nosedive" of the Netflix series, Black Mirror
- Wednesday: Watch second half tomorrow
- Thursday: Make posters --

- Table 1:  Define characteristics of sci-fi.  What is real and fantastic about this episode?  Identify at least five elements for each side.

- Table 2:  Define characteristics of satire.  What satirical jabs are made at this show?  Who/what is being critiqued?  How do the "jokes" work?

- Table 3:  What was the most heart-wrenching moment of the episode for Lacie?  Compare it to other moments which are less difficult to process.

- Table 4:  What are the pros/cons of Naomie's approach to the world?

- Table 5:  What are the pros/cons of Ryan's approach to the world?

- Table 6:  What does the ending of the episode suggest about society as a whole?  Does the episode bring the audience to a new appreciation or understanding about our culture?

- Movie review (late); DL Friday
- Poster presentations on Friday
