Students will discuss the role of satire in society in a debate, for Face-off-Friday.

Agenda:

What are the limits of satire?  Are there subjects that should be off limits?  Can the humorist get away with messages that are inflammatory?

Face-off-Friday Ground Rules
1. Only five panelists from your side will be actively arguing at a time.
2. If you are not arguing, you should have a sheet of paper out to take notes; you will be permitted to return to a past argument/topic when your time comes.
3. The panelists for each side will be chosen at random after each sessions (3 total sessions).
4. Maintain respect, but this is a debate; in other words, argue for the sake of creating dialogue.
5. During the debate, you will be responsible for a notecard.  On that notecard, you will be record which two arguments you thought were the most effective and why.

HW:
- Study vocabulary, the quiz will be on Tuesday, 2/10!
- On a GoogleDoc, shared with me via the class folder, write a TEXT paragraph in which you analyze how a satirical video uses rhetorical strategies to achieve a purpose.  You may pick any satirical video, just make sure you identify where you found it / what it's called so that I can find it.
