How to Turn In Work
Work turned in physically should be reasonably neat, undamaged, and legible.
Work turned in electronically should be completed via TurnItIn or Google Classroom (or, if not an assignment, shared with me via GoogleDocs at kunal.arora@mcpsmd.net.)
In all cases, work should be typed electronically whenever possible, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri, or something similar) of size 12, and double spaced.
Due Dates and Deadlines
Assessments have both a due date and a deadline (which are sometimes the same day, especially for work completed entirely in one class period).
Unless otherwise specified, assignments are due at the start of class. In some cases, when extra time is given, due dates may be online by 11:59pm EST, for instance.
Work completed after the due date, but before the deadline, is considered late. Late work may be penalized by up to one letter grade.
Work completed after the deadline will be assigned a grade of no higher than 50%.
Work that is not turned in at all will receive a 0% and a call home.
Extensions
While students are expected to manage their own time to ensure that work is turned in when it is due, I understand that uncontrollable circumstances may make this difficult. Students seeking extensions may have them granted under these conditions:
1) Excused absences that occurred without warning (illness, emergency travel, etc) grant an automatic extension to either the day the student returns to school, or their first chance to turn it in electronically, whichever comes first. If more time will be needed to make up work, it is the student's responsibility to contact me no later than the first day possible in order to discuss their extension in more detail.
2) Unexcused absences only grant extensions to deadlines, not due dates; students absent without an excused reason should turn work in electronically or their work will be counted late. If electronic turn-in is not possible, the student must discuss this with me and hand their work in on the first day they return to school in order to avoid the late penalty.
3) In order to receive an extension under any other circumstance, students must contact me BEFORE the due date or deadline they wish extended. If the student has valid concerns, AND there is reasonable time left in the marking period, a new due date and/or deadline will be established for them.
Re-Assessments
Though it is not always possible, many formative grades are re-assessable, but only under the following conditions:
1) The student is in good standing. This means that all outstanding assignments have either been completed or excused.
2) The student requests an opportunity for re-assessment in a timely manner (within a week of getting the initial grade).
3) The student schedules and keeps an appointment with me to discuss the assignment.
4) Re-assessment is feasible and reasonable. This means that the re-assessment is not requested so late in the quarter or semester that it is not feasible for me to grade it in time.
5) The student completes any required additional work that may be assigned during the re-assessment meeting. Often, re-assessment goes hand-in-hand with with re-teaching and re-learning. The purpose of re-assessment is not just to earn a higher grade, but to actually learn and improve the skills in question. Learning supersedes grades.
